Top Questions Being Asked
What is CBAN?
CBAN is just short for Call by Any Name.
How do I contact support at CBAN?
Simply send us an email at Support@CallByAnyName.com and we will respond within 8 hours.
How do I use the CBAN service?
Access the CBAN service from any of the phones that you have registered as part of the subscription process. The service will prompt you to say the name of the person you wish to speak to. At this time, say the name of the person. If there is only one number associated with them, the service will connect you to them. If that person has multiple phone numbers - for instance - a mobile or office number, just say home, office or mobile when prompted, and the call will be completed.
What happens if it the CBAN service doesn't recognize my Caller ID when I use the 800 toll free access number?
Although 800 toll free access is available with CBAN, there is no control as to whether or not your Caller ID will be recognized. Unfortunately we are at the mercy of the carrier that provides us with the 800 service. As such the phone number that is presented to the CBAN service may not be recognized and the system will ask you for your home phone number and your password.
What happens if it doesn't recognize the name of the person I say on the phone?
Simply say the name of the person again - make sure that you are saying the name as it has been entered into CBAN. The system will only recognize the same format as entered into CBAN.
If you are in public place where there is excessive voice, try moving to a quieter location and try the call again
If you are calling hands free from your car you may want to make sure the windows are closed and the stereo turned down.
Can my whole family use this service?
Yes, for a small incremental fee you can add up to 5 people.
This way everyone can register a different phonebook that is specific to them both from their home, office, and mobile phones.
How many mobile phones can I register with the CBAN service?
You are allowed one cellular phone to be registered with your unique email address. This is the email address that was entered when subscribing to the CBAN service. You will need additional accounts for additional mobile phones.
What Long distance is included?
Within North America, all long distance is included from any home phone or wired line phone.
Mobile phones have many different calling plans.
CBAN can work two ways
- No cost for mobile long distance, however it will still consumes minutes.
- If your wireless provider offers My5 or My10 calling plans, all you need to do is use a CBAN access phone number and you will have unlimited minutes for up to 100 numbers.
If I am calling Canada from the US on my mobile phone, how do I manage roaming charges?
CBAN will provide you with an 800 number to call which can be used with a land line however, on your mobile device it will not prevent roaming charges from being applied. Roaming charges are applied when US carriers connect to Canadian carriers.
When in the US, we recommend that users purchase and use a throw away mobile phone or make the phone call from a land line to avoid roaming charges. If you are calling from a home phone (land line) please email support@callbyanyname.com to inform us if no local access number exists.
800 toll free number usage
As part of your monthly plan you are allowed up to 60 minutes of 800 toll free usage. Additional bundles are available if required
If you have a local number calling number through a US provider/carrier, you can also use our number to avoid long distance to Canada.
What is Caller ID?
It is the unique number associated with every phone. Home wired phones and cellular phones tend to work well when accessing the CBAN service.
When I am in a hotel or at a friend's place how do I use the system?
CBAN identifies you by the Caller ID from your registered phones. (for example from your home or mobile phone). If you are calling in from an unrecognized phone number such as a friend's place, the system will ask you for your home phone number and your password.
However, if you are calling from a business or hotel, their phone systems may have several different Caller ID's that are used when making an outbound call. As such the phone number that is presented to the CBAN service may not be recognized and the system will ask you for your home phone number and your password.
If you are staying at a new location for a couple of days or more we would recommend you add the caller ID from the location you are staying at so the system recognizes your phone number.
Passwords
Please ensure that your password is numbers only. It will be much easier to key the numbers as your password when asked for it,
Do you have tips for remembering the phone number?
Our experience has indicated that it is best to use the first and last name of the person you want to call - this method allows for consistency and following this process should always allow you to successfully make the call.
Sometimes it does not work at an airport or in a restaurant?
Background noise such as airplanes, music or loud conversation can confuse our ability to recognize your voice commands. If you are experiencing problems please try a different location that is not as noisy.
Will my new phone be able to access the service?
YES - just update the new caller ID from your new phone.
How to program a speed dial key?
Given the hundreds of different phones out there it is virtually impossible to CBAN to help with programming speed dial keys.
In general, you will have a key to store a number, one to save it and one to use the programmed number. You should consult your phone's user's guide or manual for specific instructions. Some find it easier, to write the number down in large characters on a sheet of paper or a label and tape it on the phone.
Renewal period
We offer renewal for periods of 1, 3 or 6 months. This way you do not have to manage monthly bills and if you are traveling you do not have to worry about losing service.
